A launch monitor can answer a useful question: how far does your normal shot carry, and where does it usually finish? That is more valuable to a golfer chasing 89 than a screenshot of one unusually long drive.
The Rapsodo MLM2PRO is our starting recommendation to consider if you want video feedback, indoor practice and a path into simulation. The Garmin Approach R10 and FlightScope Mevo Gen2 deserve a look for different budgets and software priorities. This is a research-based buying guide, not a hands-on accuracy test. We have not independently tested these devices against one another.
The quick comparison
| Monitor | Why consider it? | The buying check that matters |
|---|---|---|
| Rapsodo MLM2PRO | Camera-and-radar feedback with impact video and measured spin using RPT balls | Confirm membership features, recurring costs and room depth |
| Garmin Approach R10 | Portable practice with club statistics and estimated shot-dispersion views | Compare the actual selling price and the subscription needed for your preferred virtual golf mode |
| FlightScope Mevo Gen2 | An alternative with core data available without a required subscription | Budget for the hardware, any optional upgrades and enough radar tracking space |
These are different packages, not a tested accuracy ranking. Software compatibility, bundles and pricing can change. The shopping buttons below link to specific product listings, not Amazon searches. Check the selected version, seller, warranty and included accessories.
Why start with the Rapsodo MLM2PRO?
Rapsodo combines radar with two cameras. Its Shot Vision and Impact Vision features give you a way to connect shot data with what happened at impact. Its listed metrics include carry distance, ball speed, launch direction and club speed; advanced features include spin, club path and angle of attack. Some outputs are calculated rather than directly measured. Rapsodo’s product page explains the feature set.
Our editorial take: that combination is worth considering if you want more context than a distance number. Use video and data to investigate a pattern, then take a specific question to an instructor. More numbers alone do not tell you which swing change to make.
Check the balls and membership first
Measured spin requires Rapsodo Precision Technology (RPT) balls, and important features sit behind a paid membership. Ordinary range balls do not provide the same spin-data functionality. Confirm the current plan and exactly what works without it in Rapsodo’s FAQ.
There is a reason to read the checkout carefully: when we checked on October 15, 2026, Rapsodo’s product page displayed conflicting trial lengths in different sections. Do not build your budget around an older “free year” promotion or assume every seller includes the same trial. Confirm the activation terms, renewal price and cancellation process before paying. Third-party simulator software may have separate charges and device requirements.

Measure the room before ordering
For the MLM2PRO, Rapsodo specifies 6.5–8.5 feet behind the ball, plus 8 feet from the ball to the net indoors. Those components add up to approximately 14.5–16.5 feet from the unit to the net. That is tracking depth, not a complete room-safety specification. Allow for the enclosure, space behind the net, full swing clearance and other requirements in the current instructions.
If the room cannot accommodate your longest club comfortably, a bargain monitor does not solve the problem. Confirm phone or tablet compatibility, lighting, alignment and a suitable ball-catching setup before committing. A projector and full simulator enclosure are separate purchases, not prerequisites for every practice session.
Alternative 1: Garmin Approach R10
The R10 is worth comparing when you want portable practice and a simpler starting shortlist. Garmin describes club statistics, training mode, swing-video recording through a paired phone, and dispersion charts based on estimated ball flight. Some virtual golf features require a subscription. Review the official Garmin overview alongside current plan details.
It also needs room: Garmin’s setup instructions place it 6–8 feet behind the ball, with at least 8 feet to the net indoors. Do not choose it expecting to remove the depth needed by a behind-the-ball radar setup.
Choose it over the MLM2PRO if: its current price, app experience and included features better match the practice you will actually do. This is a value decision, not a claim that either device wins an independent accuracy test.

Alternative 2: FlightScope Mevo Gen2
Mevo Gen2 deserves a closer look if you want core data without a required subscription. FlightScope says its core parameters, firmware updates and fixes do not require an ongoing fee; optional analysis upgrades and third-party software can still cost extra.
For limited-flight use, its setup guidance calls for about 8 feet from unit to ball and 8 feet of ball flight. Aluminum stickers or compatible Titleist RCT balls are required for accurate spin measurements in that setting. Check the current FlightScope specifications and included software.
Choose it over the MLM2PRO if: the upfront hardware cost fits your budget and the included data/software package is more useful to you than Rapsodo’s video-and-membership combination. Compare complete packages rather than assuming “no required core subscription” means every add-on is free.

The budget is bigger than the monitor
Before buying, write down the device price, membership, simulator software, compatible device, mat, net or enclosure, and any required balls. Mark each item as included, already owned or still needed. Check the first-year total and the following year’s recurring cost separately.
We have deliberately avoided publishing a fixed Amazon price: the selected seller, bundle and availability can change. Use the product listing for today’s offer, then confirm software costs directly with the manufacturer. For a Michigan garage setup, consider whether you will still have the necessary space when cars and winter storage move inside.
A practice session that can help your course decisions
Use the first sessions to build a small, honest carry chart. Keep conditions consistent, use the correct setup and record the ball type. Range-ball results may differ from the ball you play on the course.
- Warm up first. Do not use your first stiff swings as your distance baseline.
- Pick three familiar clubs. Hit ten normal shots with each. Keep ordinary mishits in your notes; label obvious misreads separately.
- Record typical carry and the spread. A median or middle group is more useful for planning than the longest shot. Note short misses and the common left/right pattern.
- Change the target. Hit one shot at a time with your normal routine, rather than grooving the same club endlessly.
- Recheck on the course. Use real results to refine the chart. Wind, lie, temperature and elevation still matter.
Pair that chart with our 30-minute practice plan and tee-shot decision guide. Then use the scoring calculator to decide whether approach play is actually where you are losing strokes.
Should you buy one now?
Consider the MLM2PRO first if the space, compatible device, RPT balls and membership all fit your plan. Compare the R10 for its current package and portable practice features. Compare Mevo Gen2 when core-data subscription costs are a deciding factor.
If penalties, short chips and three-putts dominate your scorecard, a lesson or a focused short-game routine may deserve the budget first. A monitor is most useful when it helps you make a better club choice or practice decision the next time you play.
