Top 10 Public Golf Courses in Michigan for the Money

Ten Michigan public golf picks for the money, with course overviews, visitor rates, seasonal deals and official booking links.

Michigan value golf starts close to home: a weekday round near Grand Rapids, a walking municipal in Ann Arbor or a fall tee time in Detroit. It also includes destination courses whose day-golf prices leave room for another round. Scott Lake and Glenkerry lead this shortlist, alongside options across the state.

This is Break 90 Golf’s research-based editorial shortlist, using course-operator and public-agency information. It is not an official statewide ranking or a firsthand review. We select for course character, accessible public play and a useful price proposition. Separate layouts at the same property may appear individually.

Rates and booking information checked October 15, 2026. All prices are USD per player unless identified as per cart. They are published references, not guaranteed quotes. Taxes, booking fees, travel, lodging and gratuities are extra unless explicitly included. Seasonal rates apply only to the dates shown; availability is weather-dependent. Where a dependable adult price could not be confirmed, we link to a live quote instead of estimating.

1. Scott Lake Golf & Practice Center

Comstock Park · Best for flexible West Michigan golf

Scott Lake offers three nine-hole layouts, a six-hole short course and practice facilities. That makes it useful for both a full round and a smaller outing near Grand Rapids. It leads our value list for the range of ways to play, rather than a claim that every available time is the cheapest in the state.

Price: Published peak maximums: $50–$54 for 18 with cart Monday–Thursday before 1 p.m.; $62–$66 on peak weekend/holiday mornings. Check live savings and league restrictions. The six-hole course is $10 weekday / $12 weekend walking.

Break 90 approach: Pick a nine-hole combination and tees that suit your game. On a short visit, give the six-hole course a specific wedge or putting goal.

2. Glenkerry Golf Course

Greenville · Best for a local course to keep in the rotation

Glenkerry is an 18-hole public course serving Greenville and the wider Grand Rapids area, with leagues, outings and casual rounds. It earns a place on our local-value shortlist as a Greenville option to compare. Compare the actual adult tee-time quote before choosing it over other courses in this guide.

Price: Adult rate: live quote required through the official booking link. Do not substitute a membership price for a day rate. Eligible Youth on Course members have a published $5 walking rate for nine or 18, during approved times, excluding holidays; carts cost extra.

Break 90 approach: For regular visits, track three-putts and penalties. Familiar holes make it easier to see whether a different decision saves you a stroke.

3. Diamond Springs Golf Course

Hamilton · Best for architecture at a walking price

Diamond Springs is a Mike DeVries public design south of Grand Rapids. Its combination of an individual layout and a meaningful walking discount makes it an especially useful comparison for golfers who want an interesting course without a resort bill.

Price: October 1 to season end: $50 Monday–Thursday / $55 Friday–Sunday with cart, or $35/$45 walking. June–September riding rates were $70/$80. The site lists October 5–7 aeration; ask about recovery.

Break 90 approach: Walk if comfortable and use the extra time to study approach angles. Keep the next shot in mind when choosing a tee club.

4. The Mines Golf Club

Grand Rapids · Best for a distinctive round close to the city

The Mines takes its name from the historic gypsum mines beneath the property. For a Grand Rapids golf day, it offers a convenient alternative to making every special round an overnight trip. The useful comparison is its full booking total against nearby options on the same day.

Price: The 2026 peak guide lists $59 Monday–Wednesday, $60–$62 Thursday and $75–$79 Friday–Sunday/holidays, including cart. These are reference prices, not guaranteed quotes; the club adjusts prices for demand and season.

Break 90 approach: Choose landing areas with a comfortable next shot. Avoid adding difficulty by playing tees that stretch every approach beyond your normal range.

5. Leslie Park Golf Course

Ann Arbor · Best for a municipal walking round

Rolling ground in northeast Ann Arbor gives Leslie Park some of the feel golfers travel north to find. Its public fee structure is particularly attractive if you prefer walking and can choose a weekday.

Price: 2026 standard 18-hole rates: $52 weekday / $69 weekend and holiday riding, or $32/$49 walking. Confirm taxes and your exact booking category.

Break 90 approach: Account for an uneven lie before picking a club. A balanced swing toward the middle of the green is a sensible answer when the stance is awkward.

6. Calderone Golf Club

Grass Lake · Best for an accessible I-94 golf stop

Calderone offers hilly terrain and public golf near the Jackson area, with easy access from I-94. It works as a day trip or a stop on the way across the state, and its published offseason schedule gives fall golfers a clear starting price.

Price: October 5, 2026–April 15, 2027: $40 Monday–Thursday / $50 Friday–Sunday and holidays for 18, walking or riding. The posted 2027 peak prices rise to $52 weekday, $59 Friday and $69 weekend/holiday. Weather controls availability.

Break 90 approach: Use a comfortable club when the lie or elevation makes the shot uncertain. A full swing from a good position beats forcing distance.

7. Pilgrim’s Run Golf Club

Pierson · Best for a worthwhile step up

Pilgrim’s Run is a dedicated West Michigan golf destination north of Grand Rapids. It costs more than the lowest-priced municipals here, but the included warm-up and clear shoulder-season prices make it worth comparing for a special round.

Price: 2026 fall rates after September 14: $80 Monday–Wednesday / $90 Thursday–Sunday and holidays. Peak rates were $90/$115. Prices include GPS cart, taxes and one pre-round bucket of balls per cart.

Break 90 approach: Warm up with the included balls, then play the tees that fit your normal distances. Avoid turning a premium round into a back-tee endurance test.

8. Rouge Park Golf Course

Detroit · Best for a low-cost fall round

Rouge Park gives Detroit-area golfers a public option with separate walking and riding prices. It is a practical choice when the goal is more rounds close to home rather than a destination weekend.

Price: Effective October 13, 2026, standard 18-hole rates are $37 weekday / $40 weekend with cart, or $30 walking. These are fall prices; check the next seasonal schedule rather than assuming they apply next summer.

Break 90 approach: Use an affordable round to test conservative tee-shot targets. Count penalty strokes separately from your score so you can spot the easiest savings.

9. Marquette Golf Club — Heritage Course

Marquette · Best for a less expensive Upper Peninsula companion round

The Heritage course is the club’s original layout, with rolling hills and large greens. It makes a useful alternative or companion to Greywalls when you want another round in Marquette at a lower published price.

Price: Public 18-hole green fee $59, with a cart $23 per rider: an $82 riding baseline. Confirm taxes, seasonal availability and any changes directly.

Break 90 approach: Give yourself time to learn the green speed. Reaching a large green is a good result, but leaving the first putt close matters next.

10. Sweetgrass Golf Club

Harris · Best for destination golf with a modest base fee

Sweetgrass crosses into both of our Michigan lists because value is not limited to local municipals. For a trip already taking you to the Upper Peninsula, its published day-golf price is worth comparing with more expensive destination courses.

Price: $90 base rate, or $80 September 14, 2026 to closing, including shared cart, GPS and warm-up balls. Lodging and travel are separate, so compare the complete trip cost.

Break 90 approach: Save the travel budget by grouping rounds geographically. Extra driving can cost more than the green-fee difference you were trying to save.

Make the value survive the booking

Compare cart, tax and range-ball inclusions before deciding which fee is lower. Check league availability at local courses and ask about aeration recovery before choosing a shoulder-season deal. A long drive can erase a small saving.

For a Grand Rapids-area start, compare Scott Lake, Glenkerry, The Mines and Diamond Springs on your actual date. Choose the course that fits your time and budget, then use our scoring calculator to keep the round focused on a manageable goal.
